Why we work with Magee 1866

At Perifee, we honour brands that carry history with grace — and Magee 1866 does just that. A fifth-generation family business, Magee has been weaving and tailoring in Donegal for over 150 years. Their fabrics are rooted in the Irish landscape and crafted with care, precision, and deep respect for tradition. We work with Magee because they show that sustainability and heritage are not opposing forces — they’re beautifully intertwined.

The story behind the brand

Magee’s story begins in 1866 with a small draper’s shop in Donegal Town, founded by John Magee. Back then, the iconic Donegal tweed was woven by hand — rough, functional cloth made by local fishermen and farmers to endure Ireland’s wild climate. In 1900, John’s cousin and apprentice, Robert Temple, took over the business. Today, the third and fourth generations of the Temple family continue to guide Magee forward — still rooted in the same Donegal soil, now reimagining Irish design for the modern world.

What makes Magee 1866 special

Magee’s weaving mill remains the heart of the brand — on the banks of the River Eske, where fabrics are still designed and produced. From wool and cashmere to alpaca and linen, Magee uses only natural fibres: renewable, biodegradable, and luxurious to the touch. Their designs are timeless, embracing the philosophy of slow fashion — garments to wear, keep, and treasure. Inspired by the dramatic Irish landscape, every piece carries the colours, textures, and soul of Donegal.

A perfect match

Magee 1866 reminds us that tradition isn’t static — it evolves. They combine classic tailoring with contemporary silhouettes and natural materials, creating pieces that are both elegant and enduring. Their commitment to craftsmanship, sustainability, and family values makes them a perfect fit for the Perifee world — where beauty has meaning, and quality is never rushed.
